This tutorial shows you how to post a reply to a thread on the forum; if you wish to start a new thread on a new subject, you should go to the 'Create a New Thread' tutorial (click here).
The first step is to locate the 'reply' button at the top or bottom right hand corner of the last post:
You will now see the create a post screen:
The first field is the subject; the subject will have 'RE: title of thread' - this should not be changed. The next item is a drop down list of icons - this option is usually only used when creating a new thread; there is no need to use this option when replying within a thread.
When you click on any of the buttons, you'll see some code in square brackets. Don't panic - it might look techy but it's very easy to understand!
Available Buttons - Bold, italics, underline, strikethrough, glow (IE only), shadow (IE only), marquee, preformatted, left, center, right, horizontal ruler, font-size, font, you tube video, blockquote, url, image, email, table tags, superscript, subscript, teletype, code, quote, list.
Therefore with a code such as (start making things bold) you will see it followed by (stop making things bold). Whatever text you place between these two blocks of code will end up bold, e.g. this text is bold becomes this text is bold.
To the right of the grey buttons is a drop down menu with a list of colours and underneath the grey buttons is a line of 'smilies' - these will also create a simple code when you click on them.
The large white area is where you should type the text of your post, and where the codes will appear when you click on the relevant buttons. Clicking on the text 'Expand', underneath this area, will make the white area larger.
Going further down, there is a box with numbers in it - this indicates how many characters you have remaining.
The last relevant area is the four grey buttons at the bottom:
'Post Reply' does exactly that. Before using that button, we highly recommend using both the 'Preview' and 'Spell Check' options. The 'Reset' option will clear what you have typed leaving you with the blank screen you started with.
There is a 'topic summary' underneath, should you need it.
There is also a 'Quick Reply' box at the bottom of the page in every thread - you can simply type your text here (including the required codes to manipulate your text, if you know them) and hit the 'Post Reply' button. If using this option, we would recommend you read the whole thread first!
If you make a mistake, you can make changes to your post and we've created a tutorial to show you how (click here).
