All things comes to he who waits...
Since our return to top flight apart from a moral victory on board count in the 8-8 draw in the 08-09 campaign, Mx had yet to defeat Surrey; two heavy defeats punctuated by the draw. On all occasions Surrey were the stronger side so it was a pleasant surprise when this trend was reversed, for the first time Mx had the edge. Is this a sign? Did this mean Mx would record their first victory? Alas, no. Surrey secure another win (10-6) and in doing so continue to be the bane of Mx.
There is nothing of real note to report as the match is littered with draws and defeats. After a quick draw, Surrey obtain 2 wins, Mx trail 0.5-2.5. With the position established early on the passage of play was dictated. Despite the best efforts of the team, on occasion pressing for wins in level positions or playing more adventurously than the position asked for, Surrey never relinquish their lead and only due to the necessity of trying to overturn the deficit they increase it. Commiserations guys. Amidst all of the doom and gloom though there was one highlight, Phil's win. (See link for full details: www.sccu.ndo.co.uk/match1.htm )
So Surrey continue to be our bogey team, another year, another defeat. However it is not a question of 'If' we will beat Surrey but 'When'? Certainly if both teams qualify for the ECF stage it will be sweet to achieve our first victory in say the Final! Let's try and meet this objective starting with the defeat of Kent in our next match.
